Safer internet day
Safer internet day is all about building a safer and better internet for everyone, and there are lots of ways to take part.
Get involved in safer internet day
Safer Internet Day is a national event on Tuesday 6th February 2024. It’s a chance for everyone to join together to learn more about staying safe online and help take part in making the internet a safer place for everyone.
Lots of people take part in celebrating Safer Internet day, and this year’s theme is “Making a difference, managing influence, and navigating change online.”
There are lots of ways to get involved, whether you’re taking part with people at school, or doing things on your own. Try our tips to get started:
- Be positive online
Post positive or kind responses, avoid engaging with negative posts and support friends if you think they might need some help. Remember to take a break if you’re scrolling and it’s not feeling good. - Check your feeds
Mute or unfollow accounts that make you feel bad about yourself. Learn about new ways to spot fake news. Try following something that’s focused on positivity or that helps you to feel good. - Share your views
Talk to others about what makes you feel positive online, and what you think should change in the future. Why not take our survey to share your views about Childline and online safety, or post about it anonymously on our message boards. - Learn where to get support
Check how to report and block abusive content online, and what to do if someone tries to blackmail or threaten you. Check out our advice on what to do if you or someone you know is being bullied.
Need support with something that’s happened online? You can speak to Childline about anything that’s happening.
