Hi there,

It’s natural to feel overwhelmed about starting high school. Adjusting to the new environment can take time but you won’t be the only one feeling this way. Remember, just because your sister doesn’t like it, it doesn’t mean you won’t.

Lots of schools will have ways to help you know where to go and what to do. Some may offer you a tour or set up visits before you start. Your teachers in your current school can help answer questions about it as well.

When you start, many schools will give out maps to help you find your classrooms. Lots of people are surprised how quickly they learn their way around. Remember it's always okay to ask for help. If you’re worried about the chaos while people are moving classrooms, it can help to speak to your tutor to see if they can help.

It can really help to make friends with the people you start with. There are lots of ways to make friends, you could start with a simple “hi” and ask them questions about themselves. Genuine conversations and shared interests can help you connect and make new friends.

High school may seem big and a bit scary at first, but you’ll find your way and build confidence as time goes on.

Take care,

Sam
