Hi there,
Growing and changing can feel overwhelming, but being tall is completely normal and lots of young people go through stages where they get taller or shorter than others. Even if your height feels uncomfortable now, many people become more comfortable and value the things that make them unique over time.
Growing taller often comes with things like aches in places such as knees and hips, and it can take time for your body to adjust. It’s also common for people to compare themselves with friends at school, especially when their bodies are all changing at different speeds. Being one of the tallest can make you stand out in a way you didn’t choose, and that can make you more aware of your height than you would be otherwise.
There are a few things that might help build confidence when you’re feeling insecure. Try listing all the things you like about yourself, then remind yourself of them if you’re feeling anxious. You can also try imagining what it would look like if you felt confident, and practice acting like that in real life. Even just pretending you’re confident can help to change how you feel.
If the aches you’re getting are bothering you, simple things like gentle stretching or warm baths can help. Try talking to a trusted adult about whether you might need a check-up with a doctor to help you understand what’s going on. It can also help to talk with people you trust about how it feels to be taller than others.
If you ever feel unsure about what’s happening with your body or want to talk things through more privately, Childline is always there to support you.
Take care,
Sam
