so I was just online then I said I was ten years old the person started swearing at me after that she called me emotionally ill I was in tears she didn’t believe me when I said I was in tears then kept saying mean things. I ended up reporting her 52 times and nothing happnened. eventually I wrote a compaint to the creator about her then she got blocked. I was very sad and thaught that nobody in the world was a good person. Then soon later I was thinking, why do people cyber bully and what is the point of it?

Hi there,

Cyberbullying can be very confusing and painful. People who bully others can have their own issues, but that never makes it okay. It's important to remember that when someone says something nasty online, it’s about them not you. Everyone deserves to be treated with kindness and respect.

I want you to know that it's okay to feel sad and hurt by what happened. Your feelings are important, and it's good that you expressed them. Even when bullying is over or it’s happened in the past, it can still have a big effect on you. If you’re struggling with what’s happened, it’s always okay to get support.

There are lots of ways to build your confidence online after bullying. Sometimes it can help to talk about what happened or express yourself with drawing or writing. Some people will find it helps to share positive things online, or even to report bullying when you see it happen to others. You could also join positive online communities, like our message boards.

Reporting the person and writing a complaint to the creator was the right thing to do. You took action to protect yourself and others, which is great. It can be hard when it feels like reporting isn’t helping, but it’s important to keep trying like you did and to report every comment or post. It can also help to block people who are bullying you or who say nasty things online.

If you ever feel sad or need someone to talk to, it’s okay to reach out to a trusted adult, like a parent or teacher. You can also talk to a Childline counsellor any time.

Take care,

Sam
