What my friend said

So ive been incecure about my body since forever and i started getting better and better and until a few weeks ago i loves the way i looked but then people like my 'friends' and people on tik tok and social media started commenting about it and ive tried workouts but it doesnt work and i really want someone to talk to and some advice i honestly think theres bigger problems people are facing out there but i genuinely never felt this incecure and im sure alot of other girls my age would agree. I really hope this is read and answered because i genuinely dont know what to do.

Sam

Hi there,

It’s natural to want other people to say nice things about you and to be supportive. When friends and other people on social media make comments about us it can affect our confidence and make us feel insecure. People on social media can be kind but others can be not nice and make us feel bad about ourselves.

It can sometimes be hard to think clearly about these situations and what the best thing to do might be. One thing that can help is to think about if a friend was going through this, what advice would you give them? It can also help to think about when you did feel really good about yourself, what were the things that you liked about yourself and to take time to remind yourself about these things and the good aspects of you and your personality.  These are things you know to be true.  The Tower of Confidence game can be a fun way of reminding yourself of all the really good things about you and your life. There is also a building confidence and how you look pages that could also help.

Talking about your feelings can help you feel better and the Childline counsellors are always there to listen and support you, or you can talk to other young people on the Childline message boards who may have been through similar things.

Take care,

Sam
