Sam

Hi there,

Everyone feels sad sometimes but it’s important to now that there is always help and support available. When you feel sad that can be a difficult emotion to deal with. It can be painful to cry all night by yourself and it can make you feel isolated and alone, as if nobody understands what you’re going through.

It's a sign of courage to reach out for help and always the right thing to do.  You could be worried about trusting the other person and how they will react. You have done so well to write this letter to me.  Everybody needs help sometimes. Talking about how you’re feeling can really help you feel better.

The Childline counsellors are always there to listen to you, no problem is too big or too small for them. If you’re feeling nervous about speaking to them you can share that and they can support you with that. You can share as much or as little as you want. You can find out about the different ways you can speak to Childline and their confidentiality promise.

You can also use the Childline message boards to talk to other young people who may have been through similar things and felt the same way. There's also the option of talking to an adult you trust too, such as a family member or a teacher. This may feel difficult but the conversation starter can make it a bit easier. You can use it to write down what’s been happening, how you’ve been feeling and how you would like to be supported. You can then give that to an adult you trust when you are ready.

Take care,

Sam
