hi sam can you get depression without any obvious cause. i have looked at rhe cause and i dont really associate wuth any of them
Hi there,
Everyone can feel low sometimes, this might be for lots of different reasons. Depression is a mood disorder that can last for a longer time, and can make it feel harder to do or enjoy things you normally would. Depression needs a medical professional to diagnose, but whether you’re feeling low or depressed, you always deserve support even if you don’t know what’s causing it.
It’s natural to research what’s happening to help you understand it. Even when you’re not sure what the cause is, it can help to think about how your feelings have been affecting you.
Sometimes it can help to start writing down different times you’re feeling low or depressed, and what was happening when you were. Writing things down can be a good way to start to see patterns or things that are affecting your mood.
Even if there’s no one cause that resonates with you, it’s always a good idea to talk to a doctor or an adult you trust if you’re worried about anything. Talking about what’s happening is one of the most important things you can do to cope. We also have lots of things you can do, the Calm Zone and Coping Kit have different things to try.
Talking to other young people on the message boards is another good option to hear how others cope. Childline counsellors are also here to talk to, without any judgement and whenever you need to talk.
Take care,
Sam
