Hii Sam I feel like my actions and behaviour show signs of autism and not sure what to do next or who i should speak to. Can you give me any advice
Hi there,
Being autistic means that you experience things differently to other people. It can affect how you interact with the world and how you behave. If you think you’re showing signs of autism, then speaking to your doctor can help.
There are lots of ways your doctor can support you, they’ll want to ask you questions about what’s happening and may give you some advice on what you can do. They may also refer you for an autism assessment, where someone will look at what’s happening and work out whether you should be diagnosed.
If you visit your doctor, it can help to make a list of what’s happening so you don’t forget anything. You could make a list yourself or use a tool like DocReady. You’ll need to make an appointment to see your doctor, if you’re worried about how to then it can help to speak to an adult you trust for support. It’s important to remember that you might not always be referred for an assessment, and it can take time to have one if you are.
Being assessed or getting a diagnosis is all about making sure you’re getting the right support. Even if you’ve not been assessed, it can help to think about whether there are things that others could do to help you. For example, if you’re struggling at school then it can help to speak to someone you trust there about ways they could help you. Lots of young people also share ways to manage what’s happening on the message boards.
Take care,
Sam

You can ask me about anything you want, there's nothing too big or small. I read every single letter but I can only answer a few each week. My replies are published here on my page.
