Hi there,

Working from home is new to most people - including your teachers. It's going to take time for learning from home to feel manageable and there are a lot of changes to cope with all at once. There’re a couple of things you can do to make it  a little easier.

Firstly it's important to get your workspace right. Having a separate place in the house where you work can make a huge difference to your concentration. If you try and work in a place where you usually relax, there’re likely things that will distract you. It also becomes very difficult to know when you’re supposed to be working and when you’re supposed to be relaxing. This  means you never quite feel relaxed.

To help with separating work and home even more you should make a timetable for yourself. Being at home can feel like you’re off school - but you aren't. If the quarantine wasn't happening you would be spending a large part of your day at school, so you should be following the same schedule now. Make your timetable as if you were still in school - putting in time for each subject and time to do homework afterwards. This means you can then also schedule in free time later on. If it's on the schedule as free time, you will feel more able to enjoy it and less stressed.

There may be more work than you’re used to at the moment. Your teachers are also learning how to best cope with the current situation. . So it might be a good idea to have a call with your teachers and explain the steps you’re taking to manage your work, but also that you feel like it's too much. Giving feedback will help them to know how they can best support you.

If you're feeling stressed out then you might want to visit our calm zone, let off steam with our art box or mood journal or talk to one of our counsellors. You can also see how other young people are coping with school by posting on our message boards.

Thanks for your letter.

Take care.
