Dame Esther Rantzen

We would like to remember Dame Esther Rantzen, who was the founder and president of Childline. Esther sadly died on 30 September 2026.

Childline wouldn’t exist without Esther’s amazing work. Esther set up Childline in 1986 to help children who were worried or in danger. She worked hard to understand what life was like for children and young people who were worried or upset, and she knew how hard it could be to ask for help.

We will make sure that Childline continues to be there for you, and everyone else that needs us.
