Hi there,

Being anxious is a normal reaction which helps to protect people from things that scare and upset them. It tells us that something is dangerous and that we need to be careful. Anxiety is normal and something that everyone experiences at some level, but it can affect people in different ways.

Anxiety can cause a lot of different feelings like being worried, upset, scared, feeling sick, shaky, dizzy or faint. It can make you have unpleasant thoughts that can make you feel like you are “going crazy”. One of the ways of controlling anxiety is to understand it better. Have a look at our page on managing your anxiety. You could also look on Anxiety UK for information.

Sometimes anxiety can get out of control, where it stops you from doing everyday things and feels like it’s too much to manage. If it feels like this, it might be good to speak to someone to get some help. This could be an adult you trust like a teacher or family member. Another option would be to get it checked out by a doctor. Talking to an adult can feel like a difficult thing to do and it can be hard to know how to start up a conversation.

It could be that you would like to talk things through some more to help you decide what to do next or to talk through some of the feelings you have. You could speak to one of our counsellors about anything on your mind. They're there to listen and support you.

Take care for now.
Sam
