Sam

Hi there,

A wet dream is when a person ejaculates in their sleep, like when a male orgasm which ends with sperm leaving the penis (often referred to as cum) a wet dream is the same but happens whilst sleeping. Females can orgasm in their sleep too but as they do not ejaculate like males, so it's less likely they would notice.

Sometimes this can occur when you have had a dream that has been sexual but often you will not remember and just wake up with a damp patch. It's something that happens to most males around the time of puberty and anytime through their life and it's normal for any gender to have or not have wet dreams.

Sexual arousal before bed can increase the likelihood of wet dreams but doesn’t cause them. So, they are not a result of watching porn but doing so may impact them. Sexual desires are natural and are often more intense during puberty, because there are a lot of changes happening to your body and a rise in hormones which are the reason people experience these things.

The puberty page on the website brook and the Childline puberty page talks through all the changes any gender is to expect growing up and tips on how to manage them.

As always the Childline counsellors are always here to support you if you wanted to talk more.

Take care,

Sam
