Hi there,

Well done for writing in. Talking about what you’re going through is an important step in taking control and changing things in your life.

Alcohol, cigarettes and solvents are all drugs. It sounds as though things like solvents are dominating your life. Frank might be the best people to talk to about that - they have a free number which you can call or text, and there is advice on their website.

Some people find it helps to talk to their doctor about giving up smoking (you can get support and free nicotine patches). Looking at NHS Smokefree could also help you stop smoking. If you talked to a doctor they may also be able to recommend counselling which could help you explore how you’re feeling about yourself and to find your motivation. It may help to talk to someone who can help you plan what you want to do with your life, who you want to be, what you want to do.

It could be worth talking to a careers advisor at Connexions or an advisor at the JobCentre, especially if you’re over 16. Some people try something different like joining a new group, trying to meet new people, volunteering somewhere, going to the gym – anything that helps with getting you motivated. Get Connected might be able to help you find local services or support groups. You could also take a look at our money and jobs page and our page about your future to get some ideas on how to move forward.

If you wanted to talk to someone in confidence then our counsellors are here for you to talk to. You can call on 0800 1111, send an email or log on for a 1-2-1 chat.

Hope this helps.

Take care,
Sam
