What you're saying is good advice, but if I'm honest I always try being myself around people and I find out later that they talk shit behind my back, call me weird, creepy just because I try acting nice and be myself.

That exactly happened to me before I left college with my group. And 3 guys who for 6 years I thought were my best friends actually just assume I'm trying to get attention when I try telling them why I'm upset or how I'm feeling.

They have been saying things to me tonight on text and saying "stop taking it seriously, it's just banter"... Yh well they don't know how it makes me feel, but I guess that's what my best friends r like 🤷😞.
