Hi, my name is Alex and i'm fifteen. i only have a couple of close friends, but recently I've drifted from all of them. I feel so unwanted and alone. I'm always the second choice, and people don't seem to really want to be friends with me because I'm so quiet and 'too boring'. So, I was wondering if anyone would like to be friends? My interests are dogs, the countryside and walking, art, and reading. I also believe in the Law of Attraction and manifestation (not that anyone reading this would have ever heard of it!). I love helping people, and I'm very good at listening. I'm more of an introvert than an extrovert, but I am quite confident when I get to know you. I have social anxiety and binge eating disorder.

    Hope you're okay, stay safe!

Hi Alex! I'm Georgina (hate my name though so call me whatever you want) and non binary. i want to be friends with you! (also if you're 'too boring' i'm a whole 'nother level 😂) i also like doggos, but cats are better!! i like reading to the extent i believe books are better than people and i don't know what the Law of Attraction and manifestation is but maybe you could explain it to me or recommend me a book to read about it. i'm very introverted and i think i have social anxiety but it hasn't been actually diagnosed by a doctor because i'm very bad at talking to people and find it hard (except random strangers on the internet, like you!). i'm also good at listening so feel free to vent if you want to- it'll probably help. hope you're doing well!! (btw i'm 12) xx

Hi Georgina! Thank you so much for replying! You seem so kind:)

I love your name!! Though I hate mine too! Do you have any pets? I have a dog called Honey, and I also love cats, but I'm allergic to them:(

I agree with you that books are better than people! I honestly get so lost in them, I start to believe that the characters are real ! I don't read as much as I'd love to, because I get so distracted by my phone and stuff, but I'm going to try to do it more often.

Also, I don't want you to feel as if I'm pushing this on you, you know, but manifestation really helped me so I'll tell you a bit about it:)

Basically it's the idea that what you put out into the universe comes back to you if that makes sense (so you can literally get anything you want just by believing you have it)! The Law of Attraction means that positive or negative thoughts bring you positive or negative experiences. It's a very diverse topic, so that was very simplified, but there are lots of good books and you tube videos on it ! I recommend the book 'the secret', or a girl called 'Lavendaire' on you tube (search up 'Law of Attraction: how to get anything you want'). Please don't feel like I'm forcing you, though- it's entirely up to you! Also, it's not like a religion or anything.

I can totally relate to the social anxiety bit! I'm such an awkward person, and I find it really difficult to make friends (except from on the internet). Thank you so much for saying I can vent, that's so sweet of you! Feel free to do the same, I love helping people!

Honestly, you made my day for responding- I didn't think anyone would! I hope you're okay, stay safe:)

    Hi Alex,

How are you? I would love to be your friend. I am so sorry to hear your feeling unwanted and alone, but i am sure there are so many people on Childline who would love to be your friend, i would!

I don’t think anyone is ‘too boring’, what does that even mean? if you think your ‘too boring’ you obviously haven’t met anyone like me yet. Being quiet isn’t a bad thing, i can be quite loud sometimes but really i’m an introvert. When i have drifted from my friends i have often felt like they don’t want me or they would rather talk to someone else, it can be really hard, but if they make you feel like a second choice a lot, you are probably better off without them.

I am feeling very lonely and bored in lockdown and would love some new friends, as i have limited contact with my current friends. I often find it hard to know what to talk about with them, as they often want to do everything on IG and i don’t.

My interests are limited at the moment, but i love listening to music, it is what gets me through the day, helping others and writing articles about topics i’m passionate about. What is your favourite breed of dog? I like Hungarian Vizlas.

I have never heard of the Law of Attraction or manifestation, but i love to learn new things and would enjoy hearing about it.

I love helping others too, even if you can’t always offer any advice, sometimes someone to listen can be so helpful. As i have mentioned i love writing articles, mainly about mental health, but i would like to write some about internet safety and autism awareness.

I can relate to a lot of the things you say and it would be nice to be friends, i hope to maybe hear from you again soon. I hope i haven’t put you off with my kinda boring and long message.

Best Wishes and stay safe, L

Hi! (sorry it's taken a while to reply, i was writing one then my mum took my laptop off me so I'm starting from scratch) I do in fact have pets, 2 (old) cats called Rough and Crumble. What breed of dog is Honey?

I'm the same with you on books- I can read a good book and just get lost in it for ages, at school i just spent my lunchtimes reading and hiding from people. But, weirdly, in lockdown I've been reading less. I get really distracted with texts and my laptop and lying in bed listening to music but, especially since this week is half term, I want to try to read more. do you have any good book suggestions? I'm reading The Colour of magic by Terry Pratchett. It's the first book in the 45(ish)-book series: Discworld. I would highly recommend Good Omens (Terry Pratchett is a great author) but it depends what genre you like.

I don't feel at all that you're pushing this onto me! It's a really interesting concept and I'm going to look into it a bit more!

I'm so glad i made you happy and you can talk about anything with me 😊

hello again! please don’t worry at all about replying quickly !

those are such lovely names for your cats!! Honey is a cross between a cavalier and a bichon frisé- she’s very fluffy !!

Aw i really wish we went to the same school so we could read together at break and lunch! my friends would laugh at me if i asked them to, but i’d absolutely love that! i’ll have to try the book you mentioned! you can tell me a bit about it if you’d like:) My favourite books would have to be any of Enid Blyton’s (although I love the faraway tree and the twins at st. claires in particular), and i know i’m probably far too old for them but i can’t help but love them still!

you’re so mature for twelve !

thank you so much for being so lovely, you honestly made my day! i’m so happy to have a friend who i can talk to who is as kind as you. you have no idea how happy you made me!!

Hello, L! i’m so sorry it’s taken me so long to reply, my parents wanted me to watch a program with them!

Thank you so so much for being so lovely and kind, your message honestly made me so happy! I’d love to be your friend too! How old are you? And do you have any hobbies or interests? I’d love to hear all about them!

Your advice was really helpful- thank you! When I go back to school I‘m going to try to make some new friends:) I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been feeling the same way too, I don’t have much contact with my friends either! We don’t have as much in common as we used to, and so I also find it difficult to know what to talk about.

What music do you listen to? And I love writing too! What kinds of topics are you passionate about? I love vizlas as well, do you have one? I have one dog called Honey, who is a cavachon :)

I don’t want you to feel as if I’m pushing this on you, but manifestation really helped me, so I’ll tell you a bit about it:)

Basically it’s the idea that whatever you put out into the universe comes back to you, if that makes sense, and you can literally have anything you want just by believing you already have it! The Law of Attraction means that positive or negative thoughts bring you positive or negative experiences. It’s a very diverse topic, and I didn’t explain it that well, but there are lots of good youtube videos on it! (I love Lavendaire and Luca Whitaker:) Please don’t feel pressured or anything though- it’s entirely up to you! It’s also not a religion.

I agree with what you said about listening to people and how just talking to someone can be really helpful. You can always talk to me about anything if you’d like:)

I’m running out of characters, so I hope you’re okay, stay safe!

Hi again! Sorry for taking a while to reply again, my brother wanted me to watch Thor Ragnarok with him (good film though) (Also i'll probably always say sorry because i'm weirdly polite. one time my cat, crumble, ran into me and i said sorry to her 😂)

Honey is such a sweet name too! I bet she's cute, fluffy dogs always are!!

It'd be great if we went to the same school! It'd be nice to have someone to sit and read with instead of friends wanting to run and socialise (probably my least favourite things to do). I'll try to give you a brief summary of Good Omens, but it's a quite complicated plot:

So Armageddon is coming, the ultimate hell vs heaven battle but one demon (Crowley) and one angel (Aziraphale) don't quite want it to happen... they've been on the Earth since the dawn of time and have become quite good friends. and then there's the whole thing with the Antichrist and stuff, it's a good book you just need to read it to find out.

To be honest, i've never really read Enid Blyton books but I might start! I'm flattered you think I'm mature! I love talking with you and it makes me really happy I've made your day!! You've made me so happy replying and it feels really nice to have someone to talk to :)

Hello Georgina! I'm so sorry for taking such a long time to respond, my parents keep asking me to do things! And please don't worry, I am also weirdly polite- I'm always apologizing!

I can relate to the bit about your friends always wanting to socialize- mine do too! They always want to be in big groups of people, talking about things I don't like. I wish I had someone like you who I could just sit quietly with and read or something:( I'm quite good at talking to people one on one, and I really enjoy it, but when I'm in a big group I usually just get really shy and quiet and don't know what to say!

The book you mentioned sounds really interesting, I'll have to read it! Have you read The Hunger Games? I've only read one of the books, but I absolutely loved it. I usually read books that are far too young for me because I remember them from when I was little, and love them so much that I read them over again! So I'm trying to find good books that are more aimed at my age group:)

Honestly, you don't know how grateful I am that you want to talk to me! You are so kind and lovely!

I've never actually read The Hunger Games but everyone says it's really good and it's definitely on my list of books to read! I don't think you can read books that are 'too young' for you- there shouldn't be an age limit on books, just read what you enjoy!

Hello! Thank you for being so understanding:)

And yeah, it would be so cool! Where do you usually go at break and lunch and what do you do? I usually go between three of my friends (because they're not all in the same friendship group), but I find making conversation with them quite difficult. As much as I love them, I don't have the same interests or things in common with them anymore, and I feel very left out and alone when I'm with them. I'd like to spend time with someone like you, but it feels like no one in my school is like that, and everyone already has their own friendship group. Do you have very many friends, and do you belong to a friendship group?

Also, what subjects do you enjoy at school? And do you like school, or not? My favourite subjects are beliefs and values, english and maths, although I'm not very good at it! School is okay; I dread going and then I actually quite enjoy it, but at other times I find it horrible and daunting.

It's so sweet of you to say I make you smile! You make me smile too:) I'm so grateful to have finally found someone who I have lots in common with! I always look forward to coming on to Childline to talk to you, you're so so kind and I'm so lucky to have you as a friend!!
