Sam

Hi there,

It sounds like you are worried that you have done something wrong because of the message the website gave you, but I wouldn’t worry about that too much. That kind of message is something you might get if you put the wrong information in the wrong box. I would encourage you to talk to your parents/guardians about what happened though, so that they can help you.

The internet can be a great place to have fun but it can also be dangerous. I wouldn’t recommend giving out details like your postcode and email address anywhere online. By talking this through with a responsible adult they can help you if you are struggling to understand the forms you are filling in, or are worried about what will happen if you send your details to someone online.

We have a page on Staying safe online with some online safety tips which you might found useful.

You could also talk this through with a counsellor at ChildLine, as they are always there to help you and support you. You could speak to a counsellor by phoning free on 0800 1111 or by having a 1-2-1 chat. You could also check out the message boards and see how other young people have dealt with similar situations, or even start a new thread about what happened.

Take care,
Sam
