Sam

Hi there,

Thanks for your letter.

It sounds like you have a lot going on for you right now. You’ve shown a lot of courage to write to me.

I can hear that people have been bullying you by calling you names and making judgments about decisions you have made. It’s not okay for anyone to bully you and it is not your fault that they have. You can find some ideas about how to cope on our bullying pages.

It seems like you may have been self-harming by cutting yourself. I want you to know that lots of young people use self-harm as a way to help them cope. It is really important to remember to get medical help if you are concerned about anything you have done to harm yourself, or if bleeding takes longer than normal to stop. You could try reading our advice for coping with the urge to self-harm. There are also lots of young people talking about self-harm on the message boards.

I can hear that your relationship with your mum is difficult for you and that she has a go at you every day. I’m not sure what you mean when you say there’s no going back, but it sounds like you feel like screaming and cutting a lot of the time.

Your grandma, siblings and friends obviously mean a lot to you. You have told me that they are the reason you are staying here which makes me wonder whether you might have thought about doing something to try and end your life. I really want to encourage you to try talking to someone you trust in your life about these feelings. You deserve to have some support to help you cope and some help moving towards changing these feelings.

If talking to someone you know does not feel like an option for you, you can talk to a ChildLine counsellor at any time. You can do this by phoning free on 0800 1111, by logging on for a 1-2-1 chat or by sending an email.

Take care,
Sam
