Hi there,
It sounds like youre quite worried about your periods starting. Im pleased that youve found the courage to write to me about this as it's something that lots of young people worry about but are often too scared to ask anyone.
Its good that youve had the talk but Im not sure from what youve said if this was something that your parents did or something at school. It sounds like this talk has raised lots of questions for you and youre not sure where to get those answers from.
Theres lots of really useful information in Explore about Puberty and hopefully you'll find answers to your questions there. There is also a message board about Puberty for girls where you might find answers to lots of your questions. If there's anything you can't find perhaps you could start your own thread.
You mentioned that you're worried about not being prepared for when your period comes. It might be a good idea to talk to an adult at home who can help you choose some sanitary protection which you could keep handy at home or in your school bag.
Hopefully the information I've given you will be a good starting point. If you have any more questions you can always talk to one of our counsellors who will be able to listen and support you. You can ring us free on 0800-1111 (calls wont show up on your phone bill), log in for a 1-2-1 chat or you could send an email which we reply to within 24 hours.
Take care,
Sam

You can ask me about anything you want, there's nothing too big or small. I read every single letter but I can only answer a few each week. My replies are published here on my page.
