Hi,

It’s natural to be jealous sometimes – we all want to be happy, to look good and to have nice things. Feelings like jealousy aren’t wrong on their own, but it depends on how you act on them. It’s important to think about how our words and actions can affect others, as well as looking after ourselves.

When we look at someone else and want to be like them or want something they have, it can be a way for us to express that we’re unhappy with ourselves in some way. It’s can help to ask ourselves why we feel the way we do, so that we can understand ourselves better. Building your self-esteem could help you get rid of this feeling.

It might be that when you look at what makes you jealous, you start to think about what’s important to you about being cuter than her. Perhaps you can think about how you feel when you think about other people having an opinion of you and what it’s like when you see someone who can do something better than you can.

Understanding your own feelings can be hard but it’s a good thing to do. The better you understand why you feel the way you do, the easier it will be to know how to act. Talking to a counsellor could help you work through these feelings. Or you can get support from other people on our message boards.

I hope this helps.
