Ask Sam letter

Hi there,

Thank you for your letter and well done for writing in to get some support.

Sometimes talking through with someone how you’re feeling can really help to get those feelings out so they feel less like they’re weighing you down. Finding someone you can talk to also means you can look together at how things could change.

You’re always welcome to talk to a ChildLine Counsellor about how you’re feeling on 0800 1111 (all calls are free and don’t show up on the bill) or log on for a 1-2-1 chat.

We have lots of information about Depression and feeling sad that might help you understand more about your feelings too. We also have a video about feeling depressed or unhappy -  this might help you understand that lots of people feel this way sometimes.

If you’re not sure what’s making you feel so upset and things feel pointless it can be helpful to take some time to have a think about when you started to feel this way. Did something happen or did something change for you around that time.

Have a think too about whether there are times when you feel up or down and whether anything in particular seems to be happening at those times. Sometimes if you can understand a bit more about what’s making you feel a certain way it can help you to think about what might need to change for you. It could also help you think about ways to cope with those difficult feelings.

You’ve done really well to write this letter to me and that’s a really brave step to start getting some support with how you’re feeling. Remember that ChildLine counsellors are always here for you if you need to talk.
