Lots of people feel nervous about moving from primary school to high school. It's a big thing to move schools, from a place you know well and feel comfortable to bigger and unfamiliar surroundings.
Talking to your friends about how nervous you are may encourage them to say how they really feel. Being nervous about change is a normal emotion that lots of people experience. There may be teachers you will miss and friends you have made that are going to different schools, and saying goodbye to them can be hard. Perhaps you could think about ways to keep in touch with your friends during the summer holidays. You could also talk about your expectations of high school.
Sharing your thoughts with others can help to ease any fears you have and help you look forward to the new and exciting adventure ahead. To help you prepare for high school it may help to talk to a trusted adult about how you feel. They may be able to share how they felt when they moved schools and how they coped with the change. You could also do this by asking older teenagers on the ChildLine message boards what changing schools was like for them.
Learning to meet new people is all part of changing schools and is something that all the other new starters will experience too. There will be new things to learn, new friendship groups to form and it may not be as scary as it feels now. You may also want to read tips for making new friends.
