Hi there,

Thanks for your letter.

You want to move out of home because you are being physically abused by your adoptive dad. It sounds like life at home is very difficult for you and I’m glad you decided to write your letter, seems like it could have taken a lot of courage to do that.

Physical abuse is wrong and it’s not your fault that it happens; it is not ok for anyone to beat you up and there are people who can help you. If you feel like you are in danger then you are allowed to call 999 and ask the police to help you.

You might like to have a look at the physical abuse page in the explore section of the website.

It has lots of information about what to do if you are being physically abused.

You have a right to feel safe and happy where you live; if you don’t feel that way there are people and organisations that would be able to help you. Some young people who contact us are also involved with social services who can help in a situation like this. You seem confused about what to do and where to go. Talking to someone can help to make a complex and difficult situation seem a little clearer. This could be an adult that you trust to help you, like a teacher or a relative, or in some cases a social worker or advocate.  It could also help to contact ChildLine first to talk about feelings around telling someone about what is going on, who you might tell and what you might say.

You can talk to a ChildLine in confidence; they are always there to help and support you. You can contact them by phoning them free on 0800 1111 or you could register an account on this website which then allows you to talk online to a counsellor through our 1-2-1 chat service or send emails to them. You can contact them at any time during the day or night.

Take care,

Sam
