Sex

Hi, I am a 14 year old girl who has had sex. I had sex a couple of weeks ago and I think I'm pregnan. My question is that is it ok to be pregnant at 14 or am i going to get into trouble with being under the age of 18

Hi there,

The age of consent in the UK says that it’s illegal for anyone under the age of 16 to have sex. This law is there to protect young people, not punish them. So getting pregnant isn’t something you should get in trouble for.

When you think you might be pregnant the first step is finding out for certain. You can do this by taking a pregnancy test. There are lots of different places where someone can get a pregnancy test for free – including for free at a GP surgery, NHS walk-in centre, or Brook Centre. You can also buy them from a pharmacy or supermarket.

If a pregnancy test comes back positive it’s important to see your doctor. It can be scary talking about pregnancy but they can check your health and talk to you about your options.

When you’re worried you can always speak to one of our counsellors on 1-2-1 chat, sending an email or by calling for free on 0800 1111. This is not something you have to go through alone and Childline counsellors are always there to support you.

Take care,

Sam
