Hi there,

It can be difficult to be single and you really want a relationship. When you’re on your own and you see couples all around you, it can be hard to feel happy being single. From what you’re saying you also went through a painful time when you and your ex broke up and you feel ready to start a new relationship now.

One of the most important relationships you have in life is with yourself. It’s a good idea to work on taking care of yourself and boosting your confidence. Spend time with people you care about and enjoy doing things with those who have similar interests to you. This is a good way to have fun and also meet new people who share the same passions as you. While you’re single, it’s a good opportunity to think about what’s important to you in life and what sorts of qualities you’d like in a partner.

I noticed that you said that you were feeling “desperate”. It could be a good idea to take the pressure off yourself because feeling desperate to be with someone could mean that you end up going out with somebody who you’re not sure about, just because you want to be in a relationship and not be single.

You deserve to have a fulfilling relationship with somebody who makes you feel cared about and supported. While you’re looking for that person, don’t forget to enjoy other things in life.

If you’d like to talk this through a bit more with a ChildLine counsellor, remember that you can get in touch any time.

I’m really glad that you wrote. I imagine that there are a lot of people in a similar situation to you and hopefully reading this will help them too.

Take care,
Sam
