15 and pregnant

I'm Ash. I found out I was pregnant a week ago and I am scared. I don't know how to tell my parents because they are not the 'listen before judging' types. My boyfriend is being as supportive as possible but I need to let them know. I can't find any pills to help me and I don't want an abortion without my parents please help me

Hi there,

Finding out you are pregnant can be a difficult and overwhelming time, especially if the news has come as quite a shock. It’s natural to feel unsure about what to do.

It's important to think about what you want, and to talk to a doctor. The sooner you can do this the more options you will have. It's your body and your choice what you would like to do next.

A pregnancy can be stopped before you reach 24 weeks. After 16 weeks, it becomes more difficult to have an abortion and may require surgery.

Your decision has to be supported by a doctor or medical professional. It’s not something you can do on your own by looking online for pills. Brook supports under 25 year olds to get the help and advice on contraception, pregnancy and abortion.

It’s natural to worry about how your parents might react to news like this. It might help to prepare what you'd like to say and when you'd like to say it. It may come as a shock to begin with, and they might feel different emotions as they work out how to get the right support for you.

You can always talk to a ChildLine counsellor to prepare you for having the conversation with a doctor and your parents. You don’t have to feel on your own and the sooner you get support the more options there are.

Take care,
Sam
