Ask Sam

Hi there,

Thanks for your letter.

You have told me that you are getting bullied at school and that it doesn’t bother you. That makes it seem like you could have been coping with being bullied for quite a while. It sounds like the bullying has got worse recently, you feel it’s got out of hand because you can hear them speaking about you which makes you not want to go to school.

I want you to know that bullying is wrong, nobody has the right to bully you and I’m glad you decided to write to me about it. Every school has an anti-bullying policy which tells you what they will do to protect you if you are bullied and you are allowed to ask to see this policy. Some people have asked the school to see this policy and have thought about showing it to parents or carers and see how they can support you and what the school has to do to help. You could also try talking to a teacher you trust about being bullied.

There is lots of information and helpful ideas on the Bullying page in the Explore section of ChildLine’s website and the message boards can be a good place to get support from other young people in similar situations. You could also have a look at the bullying UK website, where there is some advice about what you can do if you are being bullied.

You might like to talk to a ChildLine counsellor, they would be able to support you and help you work out what you can do as well as talk about how bullying makes you feel. You could phone, email or have a 1-2-1 chat with a counsellor. They are always ready to listen and support you.

Take care,
