Hi there

It can feel isolating when you're being treated differently because of the way your voice sounds, your culture, race or the colour of your skin. It can be difficult to have confidence in yourself when that happens and can make you feel like you want to change the way that you look, speak or act. It’s not okay for anyone to treat you differently because of your race or culture and you shouldn’t have to change anything about the way you are.

There are many different types of bullying and bullying is always wrong. No one has the right to bully you and it's never your fault. Whatever's happening, there are ways to get help and to start feeling better about yourself. It's always okay to be who you are and not feel like you have to hide a part of yourself.

Being bullied can cause you to feel stressed and can be a lot to deal with alone. Usually it helps to talk to someone about what's happening.

Lots of young people worry that telling someone could make things worse. Talking to someone you trust, like a friend or an adult could be the first step towards getting the support that you deserve. Your school do have a responsibility to do something about bullying when it's reported. It might be an idea to find out what your school’s anti-bullying policy is because they should have one.

As scary as it sounds, it's worth trying to make new friends because there'll be some people who like you for being yourself. Anyone who doesn’t take the time to get to know the real you probably isn't worth being friends with.

Remember that you can always speak to a Childline counsellor. They're here to support you and help you talk about feelings that are hard to deal with.

Thanks for your letter.

Take care,

Sam
