Contacting Childline from abroad

Hi,

I have a Childline account because I live in the UK. However, at the moment, I'm on holiday abroad in North America. Something has happened and I really want to call Childline for some help. Will it cost me the same way a normal phone call is very expensive when calling abroad? Please get back to me soon if possible.

Thanks

Hi there,

Going abroad can mean that it's difficult to get in contact with Childline as it's not always going to be possible to do so. You can't usually call Childline from North America but if you have a Childline account, you can still log in for a 1-2-1 chat.

When you're away from home, you may not have your usual support. At home you may have places you can go, things you do or people you speak to who help you cope with things. If you know you're going to be away from home it can help to plan ahead and look after yourself.

If you're not going to be able to get online then you may want to think about what you can take with you to help you cope. It might be that you need to distract yourself by taking books or something to keep your mind occupied.

If you can get online but won't get enough time for a 1-2-1 chat then you can send an email using your Childline account.

Remember that if you're in danger abroad and need to call the police or an ambulance, dialling 112 will almost always put you through to the emergency services in most countries.

I hope that helps.

Thanks for your letter.

Sam
