To Sam

Childline and my mum and dad

Hello Sam,

I got in touch recently because of my anxiety. I don't want my parents to find out I get in touch because they don't believe I need any support. Is it ok to get in touch for literally ANYTHING? And can you ever get in touch too much?

xx

Hi there,

You can talk to Childline about anything at all, including anxiety, and you don't need to tell anyone you speak to us. As long as talking to Childline is useful for you and not getting in the way of other parts of your life, you can use us as often as you need to.

If you feel you need support, it's okay to reach out for it. Only you get to make that decision. Remember that Childline isn't just about talking to counsellors but there are lots of other ways we might be able to help support you.

We understand that talking to Childline can be a big step and it's usually something people want to keep private. For this reason we have some advice that talks about how to cover your tracks when you visit our website. Calling Childline on 0800 11 11 shouldn't show up on your phone bill and is free. But do remember to clear it from your phone's call history too.

As well as talking to counsellors you can use all of the other ways we provide support online. This ranges from talking with other young people on our message boards, through to using the Art box or your private journal within your locker to express yourself. You can use my Ask Sam page to read letters I've replied to about a huge range of topics, as well as find out about all kinds of different issues in our information and advice pages and videos.

Don't forget you can use Childline online as well as through your phone using our app, For Me.

I hope that helps, thanks for asking about this.

Sam
