Hi there,

Thank you for writing to me. It sounds like you really want to be able to talk to the counsellors at ChildLine.

You’ve asked if the Childline service is only for younger children. The service can be used by anyone up to their 19th birthday. You can talk about anything you want, the counsellors won’t think you’re wasting their time! They are there to listen to anything that’s on your mind, whether it’s a big issue or a small one. They are used to working with young people and supporting them to cope with lots of different things.

The service is confidential and that means the counsellors will not share information with anyone else unless you want them to or you are in life threatening danger. This makes Childline a safe place for young people to talk. If you are in immediate danger it is ok to ring 999 to get help fast.

If you want someone to talk you can ring Childline on 0800 1111. If you create an account then you will also have the option of emailing a counsellor or you can log on for a 1-2-1 chat. There are also message boards on the website where you can read messages from other young people and even post your own messages to ask for their advice.

I hope that this has helped and that you can come to Childline to support you in the future.

Take care,

Sam
