Feminism - Are you a feminist?

Feminism is a thing that matters to me a lot. If you're not sure what it is, it's basically trying to achieve equality between men and women. However, there are a lot of misunderstandings and a lot of people really don't know what it's about or what makes you a feminist. It really upsets me that a lot of people around my age, in their teens, don't know what it is or just don't care.

So, do you call yourself a feminist?

    holla doctor who reference!

Generally yes, I call myself a feminist, because I believe in equal rights and I'm sick of people telling me to act a certain a way or that I can't do certain things. But I think there are connotations attached to feminism that can make people not want to outright call themselves feminists, even if they support equal rights. I mean, a lot of feminism seems to be white middle class+ ciswomen, which can be a little, like, excluding? Like Margaret Sanger (lady who established Planned Parenthood) was a huge racist and a huge part of her wanting contraception was to "assist the race toward the elimination of the unfit" but no-one considers that. And then, basically all the suffragettes were upper class ciswomen. And then you get transphobic Radfems making the news, and it's really all over the place. So, yeah I guess I'm a feminist but I'm willing to accept that feminism isn't particularly some golden title.

While I agree with feminism in some rights, sometimes it can go too far.

Take the other day for example... I went to the shop to get milk for my mum and there was a lady just up the road doing a talk on femisim. She told this girl there was such-and-such percent a chance that girls and women would be raped or sexually attacked on a night out, but she mentioned nothing about boys and men. I was raped myself (I'm a boy by the way) a couple of years a go, so I asked her about it. Do you know what she said? "It doesn't count when it happens to boys."

    That's a little bit sexist, isn't it?

I'm 13 and I'm definately a feminist. I hate the way men treat women like dirt. My dad for one, stares at women's private parts and I think it's awful. I also hate how blonde females (such as myself) are viewed as dumb. Do blonde males get accused of being dumb for their hair colour? No they do not. I also hate the way that women do 75% of the worlds work and own 3% of the worlds property. What is that all about? I think feminism should be taken seriously and talked about in schools.

Rightttttttt. Men are sexually attractive to women so they will look at women. This is apart of being human. Its helped us through evoultion to find the best mate. You should feel happy if a guy look at you like that. Its natures way of telling you that you are "fine". The reason blonde women get acused of such things is because of the media. Look at some of the popular shows like The only way is Essex or that other crap. They all portray blondes as stupid because the women on the show are. So everyone automatically assume they must be. Women dont actually do 75% of the world work its so much less than that. Men are what we are. We were born to do all these things. Dont get me wrong if a woman wants to stand up for herself then go ahead. But dont you dare blame men for everything or you will lose our respect even more.

Women actually do do 75% of the worlds work and earn 3% of the worlds property (do your research). Yeah I agree that the media are attacking blonde women's intelligence, I also think that's where it all started. I'm not blaming guys for everything, that's just an illusion that you have made. I think guys are obviously and important part of our society. I'm not saying that 'all guys' are bad, I'm talking individually. I'm 13 and I hate it when 65 year old men or married men stare at my private parts. It doesn't make me "happy" it actually offends me and shows me that they are sick. You wouldn't understand because you're guy. As I say again, I'm not blaming guys for everything, I think that even today in different, less developed parts of the world women are treated like second class citizens. Even here,  my dad who is   by the way 47 years old and married would happily see a 16 year old girl with no clothes on. So don't you dare say that girls should enjoy it.

Ignoring lol heteronormativeness at the beginning, but wow you do know women are not just there to be looked at right? And that women don't need men’s approval on how they look? And that some people look at women in a way that is hard to take as a compliment, and instead can be scary because of rape culture and stuff?

Do you have a source for that bit about work? Even if it's not paid work, women often take up roles of unpaid care givers to children and the elderly more than men. I don't know if 75% is a correct figure, but it's not 'so much less than that'.

I would call myself a feminist.

I get angry when someone says something thats is potentially sexist. For instance, in school we were discussing what we wanted to do when we grow up, one of the girls in my class said she just wanted to marry a rich guy. I found that really insulting and anger-provoking as she seemed to have been brought up in a way that made her think that all girls can do in life is be pretty and not get live well independantly which for me is a really unhealthy way of thinking.

Also, when a male is being abused by a partner (wife/girlfriend) social services don't take action the way they should, it's a lot harder for men and teenage boys to get the attention of the authority if they're being domestically abused or have been raped. In the case of domestic abuse from a partner men can do more physical harm due to strength, but women are more able to scare a partener with words, mentally damaging instead of beating, which can be just as deadly as physical abuse. Social services and other people that would normally get involved in a domestic violence case don't take it nearly as seriously as they should and sometimes don't respond at all to a victim's call.

I know!! You wanna know whats just as bad? Girls kicking guys in the testicles! Girls nowadays seem to do that because they think it's sooooooooo "funny" (well not most girls but some). IT'S NOT!!! It's very painful for the guy and the number 1 example of male abuse! I don't care how much of a pervert the guy is being, you should NOT kick him between the groin because it doesn't make you "superior" or a strong woman for that matter! Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying women can't be strong because they can, but abusing males like that is not a good reason to do so. And the most disgusting thing about this is that people consider this to be a comedy gag in movies and TV shows. Like it influences people that a guy getting his testicles kicked is ok.

It could depend on how much  of a 'pervert' a guy is being, if it's way up on the scale of rape then I'd say it's fine as it's a from of self defence and since girls tend to be weaker than guys (not saying that about every girl) it's probably one of the only ways to 'overpower' . It would be instinct to hurt the offender if you were in that position guy or girl. If it's a guy or a girl accting in a perverted way but not going so far as to physically assault then you should just walk away.

Exactly, women in the workplace are at a disadvantage as they have to work twice as hard as men to be given equal pay. Men are at a disadvantage in the area of abuse because of the stupid stereotype of men being to strong to be hurt by a woman. Authorities in both cases need to waken up to the facts!

Well ok. You made a point on the whole pervert thing, but what I'm also trying to say is there are girls who do it just for fun even when the guy is not trying to commit rape. They do it to laugh at the boy or just to prove that girls can be stronger than boys. Thats not funny and it never was! It's bullying and abuse when the boy isn't trying to physically assault! And people don't even take it seriously (yet another reason why male abuse is way more overlooked than female abuse) and it's used in movies and TV shows as comedy gags. Sorry if I repeated myself, but thats the only way this is going to get the message across.
