    I'm Charlie-Host - nice to meet you

     

    Hi guys,

    My name is Charlie-host and I’m going to be the new message board host.

    I wanted to start by just saying a really big thank you and goodbye to Alex-Host who has done such a fantastic job over the last 18 months. It’s nice to see all the thank you messages you have all posted. I know Alex-Host has enjoyed his time as host on the boards. He has told me great things about the community so I’m really looking forward to getting to know everybody.

    I’m here to help you around the boards and answer any questions you have about the site or the ChildLine service. I might not know all the answers straight away, but I promise I will do my best to try and find out for you.

    I’m also here to pass on any feedback that you guys have about any part of ChildLine (so things like feedback for the counselling team, about the website, technical problems, ideas for campaigning or fundraising etc).

    If you have anything that you want me to respond to, post it in one of the message boards in the ChildLine category. Just a reminder though, the host is not part of the counselling team. This means that I can’t support you with individual issues, but I can point you in the right direction.

    It’s fine to post here too if you have any questions

    I trust you will do a great job just like Alex-Host did, And yes I do feel a little sad about him leaving but what happens, happens. Anyway welcome to Childline!!!

    Welcome to ChildLine message boards! There is stacks of kids on here, we are an awesome bunch and although we'll miss Alex-Host badly  we are so glad to have you here to 

    I'm sure you'll be as good as Alex-Host was at hosting the boards. I was just wondering, are you going to host the boards for 18 months like Alex-Host did?

    It can seem weird on here first, I'm not going to lie. I started using ChildLine a bit before we had Alex-Host, and I thought I'd be useless at helping people. Turns out I was okay! Dont ever feel that Alex-Host is better than you because he did wonderfully and I'm sure you will to.

    Thanks for your post and all the encouragement.

    To be honest I am not sure how long I will be hosting the boards as there is no definite time on it at the moment. I’m pleased to be here now though, and look forward to seeing you around the boards

Using the keyboard instead of the mouse
As well as using the tab key to navigate through the screen, the ChildLine website has special access keys:

Alt+S = skip navigation
Alt+1 = home
Alt+0 = accessibility information.

Is the text size too large or too small?
You can change your text settings through your browser options:

In Internet Explorer, go to View > Text size and select your desired text size setting (eg, larger, smaller).

In Firefox, go to View > Text size and increase/decrease using Ctrl and + or -

If you have a scroll wheel on your mouse, you can hold down Ctrl and scroll back or forth to increase or decrease the font size in both IE and Firefox.

Changing your computer screen settings
To change the size of the image shown on your screen on a PC running Windows 95 and upwards, go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Display > Settings and change the desktop area by using the sliding bar.

On an Apple Mac, you can use the Monitor & Sound Control Panel to change the resolution.

Having difficulty with your keyboard or mouse?
You can fine-tune your mouse and keyboard settings under Start > Settings > Control Panel > Accessibility in Windows 95/98/NT/2000 and XP.

Skipping navigation for talking browsers and screen readers
For speech browsers, you can press Alt and S followed by Enter to skip navigation on our pages.

The site is W3C level AA compliant.
