Hi there
Thanks a lot for your letter. It sounds like things at home are a bit tough for you at the moment.
You talk about your brother turning anorexic and I wonder what makes you think that, it sounds like he thinks he is ok as he says he is average weight and size. It can be very difficult for people who suffer from eating disorders to acknowledge it and admit they have a problem with food.
I can see you have said you have tried talking to him and also talking to your parents but nothing has worked. It sounds like that must be frustrating for you.
You also talk about your brother putting your parents on diets and now there are lots of arguments about weight loss and calories.
You say you can’t make them see. Arguing in families can be a healthy natural behaviour that happens in lots of families but if it gets aggressive and starts happening a lot it can make other members of the family feel worried and afraid to speak out, which is unhealthy.
There is a really useful website called b-eat that has a lot of information about eating disorders. You may find it useful to have a look at this and perhaps you could show it to your brother and parents, the web link is www.b-eat.co.uk/YoungPeople/Home. You could also have a look at the information on the ChildLine website about eating problems.
Take care and good luck
Sam
