Hi there
I’m so glad you’ve written to me, because I’m hoping this letter will help you feel less alone. It sounds like there is a lot of stress in your life right now, both at school and at home. And it’s clear you wish you could get away from the problems you’re having. You’re even thinking that going into care would be better than being at home. But, of course, you may already know that’s a very big decision, which is taken by other adults and agencies.
I was glad to see you’ve talked to your learning mentor about wanting to kill yourself. It was quite brave of you to tell an adult how low you’re feeling. That’s such a big feeling to have and I know it might not be easy to talk to family about. But our counsellors know how to talk to young people who think about killing themselves and we never judge someone who has those thoughts.
I’m just hoping that hearing from me and looking at our website gets you to call us on 0800 1111 or go online for a chat, so that you can talk to one of our counsellors. We’d like to know what happened when you told your learning mentor how you felt. We’d also like to know what makes it hard to tell mum more than you do, because from your letter, it sounds like that has become a problem at home too.
Most of all I'm hoping that talking to us will help you feel understood. At ChildLine we believe what young people tell us, and will try to help you feel less stressed and alone.
I hope you take a good look at the some of the information in Explore. Here are a few links to get you started: Feeling sad, Family relationships and School. You might also find the Message boards helpful, because it’s where young people talk to each other about how they are feeling.
Take care,
Sam
