Topic I'm changing schools again...

Question

I'm changing schools again...

Dear Sam

I'm in year 9 and as you probably know year 9s had to choose their options earlier on this year.

But, as I've had to move again this year I'm worried that I'll just get placed in to any old option class and I've changed my mind about which options I want to choose for GCSE in year 10.

Also as I said earlier I've had to move again, but I'm currently on the waiting list for a school not actually in one, and I've fallen behind on some of the topics that they have done. I've searched for some of them on the BBC Bitesize websites, but I can't find them so I was wondering if you know of any other good revision websites? Also do you know of any free catch up courses I might be able to go to?

Thanks Miss Moved With The Wind

Hi there

Thanks for writing to me. It sounds like you are anxious about starting a new school, and the possibility that you have fallen behind whilst you are waiting to get into a school.

Lots of young people feel this way when they are going to a new school, it’s a big change and changes can be scary, however they can also be a bit exciting too. You say you have moved again, so it sounds like you have been through this before and I wonder how you coped last time?

You say you have changed your mind about what options you want to take and you are worried you will be put in any old option class. How would it feel to talk to your new teacher about this on your first day?

A good website I know of that may help you with your revision is www.homeworkelephant.co.uk

I’m afraid I don’t know of any free catch up courses that would be available to you. How would it feel like to talk to an adult about this?  Perhaps a trusted adult could ring your local education authority on your behalf to see if there is anything in your local area available to you for free.

You could also visit the ChildLine message boards. If you Sign up for a ChildLine account you can post your own message and get other young peoples experiences in similar situations.

Hope this helps,

Take care

Sam
