Hi Sara
Thanks for telling me about what’s been going on for you. You’ve done really well to get in touch, especially if you have been afraid to contact Childline before. ChildLine and I do think that what is going on for you is important and I'm glad you've asked for help.
It sounds like you might be worried about the health of your mum and grandad. You say that mum had an operation to prevent cancer but is now having more treatments and your grandad is very ill with Parkinsons. On top of this, your grandad’s behaviour, such as phoning you lots, might be affecting your mum as she’s getting fed up. It sounds like a lot to be dealing with on your own.
Sometimes having lots going on at home can really affect other parts of our lives like school and, with the added pressure of 11+ exams, it’s understandable that you might be having difficulty concentrating. I wonder, though, if you might find it useful to explain this to your tutor or a teacher you trust at school so that you might be able to have more support with this.
You said that you need someone to talk to but I’m also aware that you’re worried about yourclass finding out. It sounds like maybe you do not want to talk about this to one of your classmates. Maybe you could think about what you imagine might happen if they did know about your mum’s treatments and how it would make you feel for others to know this.
From what you’ve said, it also sounds like talking to your mum about things might not be an option for you. Maybe you could think about whether or not this is the case and, if so, what might be stopping you from talking to her. You could also have a think about what you might like to see happen.
Whether or not you feel you can talk to others, ChildLine is always here to listen to you. You can get in touch through email, 1-2-1 chat (a bit like MSN) or over the phone (0800 1111).
Take care
Sam
