Hi there
Thank you for your message.
From what you are saying it seems like things are very difficult at home at the moment. You have said that you argue with your mum a lot and it doesn’t seem like you will be able to have the same contact with your brother as you used to have. This, along with not being allowed to go out with your friends, is making you feel completely alone. Things have gotten so bad that you have even thought about running away.
You also mentioned that you aren’t able to see your dad and it sounds like you feel very upset about this.
Family relationships can be very difficult sometimes and cause a lot of problems that can bring up a lot of negative feelings. It is important that you remember that you have the right to talk about how you feel about the way others behave and act. It is also important that you are heard and that your opinions are taken seriously.
You might find it helpful to write down everything that is bothering you at the moment and then asking your mum if you can calmly talk to her about the things that are making you feel fed up and lonely. Perhaps it would be an idea to have somebody else there, like another adult you trust, who could act as a referee in case things get difficult between you and your mum.
I’m concerned to hear that you have thought about running away, and perhaps it would be good for you to call ChildLine.
You have been very brave to talk about the problems you are facing at home and I would like to encourage you to talk to a ChildLine counsellor about the arguments you have with your mum. If you wanted to, you could practise with the counsellor what you might say to your mum about how you feel. You could also find out about other help that is available to you if things do not work out, for example a social worker could meet with the family and offer additional support.
The number for ChildLine is 0800 1111, which is free to call even from mobile phones. You can also sign up to the website and chat or email a counsellor online if you prefer.
I hope this helps.
Take care
Sam
