Hi there,
Thank you for sending me your letter about how you are feeling about your grandad.
It sounds like you are very worried about him and I want you to get the best support you can. It is clear that you really love and care about your grandad and that you want what is best for him. You have told him how much you worry about him and that is really important so well done. It sounds like you are worried about the amount of alcohol that he drinks.
I can hear how much you want your grandad to fight. There is some information in Explore about Parents and alcohol that you may find helpful because lots of the advice relates to grandparents too. There is a useful website called ALATEEN with information for teenagers who are worried about family and alcohol.
You say that you don’t talk to your stepdad and that you and your mum have fallen out. Is there anyone else in your life that you could talk to about how worried you are, like a good friend or another member of the family or a teacher at school perhaps?
If you would like to you can talk to a ChildLine counsellor for free by ringing 0800 1111 or by logging onto the website and going into online chat. Everything that you tell ChildLine is confidential unless you are in real danger. You could also use the ChildLine message boards where other young people who are worried about relatives and alcohol could tell you about their experience.
Take care,
Sam
