Hello,
Thank you for sending your letter to me.
I can hear that what is happening at school is very overwhelming, and I’m concerned that things can feel so bad that you want to die. It is very hurtful when people talk about you behind your back and ignore you. It can be difficult to understand what makes these people behave so cruelly, but it is never your fault. You don’t deserve to feel like this.
It sounds like school can feel like a very lonely place. You don’t feel as though you fit in, and you’re scared and sad. Bullying is wrong and no one has the right to bully you. All schools have an anti-bullying policy, and your school and your teachers have a duty to protect you and keep you safe.
It was the right thing to do when you spoke to your teacher about your best friend, after she told you she wanted to commit suicide. Sometimes things can be too big to sort out on our own, and being strong can mean asking for help and support. There are things that you can do to stop the bullying. It’s important to try to tell someone that you trust, like a teacher or someone in your family.
If you don’t feel ready to do this just yet, how would it be to talk to a ChildLine counsellor? We would be able to get a better understanding of how things are for you and begin to think of ways that we can support you. You deserve to feel safe and happy at school.
You can phone for free on 0800 1111 to talk to a counselor directly, or sign up for an account to have a 1-2-1 online chat.
It may be helpful to keep a record of what happens at school in a diary or a journal, in case you do decide to tell someone else at a later time. Remember to keep it safe so that no one else can read it at school.
Remember there is always someone here at ChildLine that will listen to you.
Take care,
Sam
