Hi there
I’m really pleased that you have written to me about the stress you have been experiencing recently. It sounds like you are under a lot of pressure at the moment, and it’s not surprising that you have been feeling down in the last few weeks. There seem to be very high expectations of you, and I’m wondering how you would feel if you don’t get all A*s, or go to a different university.
Some young people feel that if they are not perfect, or don’t go to the very top universities, then it is the end of the world. However, there are many extremely successful people who didn’t get straight A’s, or go to Oxford or Cambridge.
Of course you need to work hard to achieve good results, but exams and revision don't need to be stressful. Help is available; why not take a look at the Beat exam stress page in the Explore section. Here you'll find lots of helpful tips and advice about coping with stress and anxiety during exams. A lot of young people seem to be feeling the same way and it is perfectly normal. You might want to take a look at the exam stress message board to see what others are saying.
It can also help to talk to someone about how you're feeling, such as a parent or teacher. They might not realise how much the pressure to succeed is affecting you and may be able to offer support. You can also contact a ChildLine counsellor for free on 0800 1111, through 1-2-1 chat or by sending an email.
Good luck
Sam
