Hi,
Thanks for having the courage to write to me. It's great that you recognise bullying is wrong and want to stop how you are behaving.
Sometimes people bully others because they have personal issues that are worrying them. Quite often we behave a certain way because issues at home or school are making us unhappy.
I understand that it can be difficult to break away from a group of people behaving in an unacceptable way. Sometimes it feels good to belong to a group, even when their behaviour is unacceptable. It can make us feel wanted. However, try to stop and think about the people you are bullying and how they may feel.
It could be that some of your friends that are bullying don't like what they are doing as well. Try to find others who want it to stop. Perhaps together you could talk to the other members of your group.Tell them that you aren’t going to do it anymore as you think it’s wrong.
You could also ask a teacher that you are comfortable talking with to help you. They could have a chat to the class about bullying and the affect it can have.
Anti Bullying Week is coming up on 15 November so you might want to think about doing a project for it. You could also think about sharing what’s happening with an adult you trust or speak to ChildLine about this either in a1-2-1 chat or by phone on 0800 1111.
There are support websites for those who bully. Take a look at www.cybermentors.org.uk, where you can talk to other young people and get advice.
I hope this helps and good luck
Sam
