Hi there
Thank you for your letter.
You said that you have been picked on because of your race. No one should discriminate you because of your race, and what they are doing is wrong. You have told me that they are asking you questions such as “can you speak English”, calling you names and making fun of you and your dogs - this sounds to me like bullying. What they are doing is not ok and you have the right to feel safe.
It may be easier to blame yourself for the comments that you hear, but it is important to remember that this is not your fault. You have not done anything wrong. There is nothing wrong with being different.
It may feel very confusing to know that the boy who is bullying you is at this same time liked by others and yourself. It sounds like you are worried that if he sees this message he may get mad at you. It is normal to feel scared to talk about being bullied, but I was wondering how you would feel about talking to someone you trust like friend, a teacher or trusted adult? Sometimes it helps to talk about how you feel and what you are going through.
You have already been very brave and taken the first step by telling me about what you are going through. ChildLine is here to support you and remember you can always contact a ChildLine counsellor either by phoning 0800 1111 or sign up and have a 1-2-1 chat online. One of the counsellors will be happy to listen, support and explore available options.
You can also go to the ChildLine bullying message board where other young people who are going though a similar situation to you are able to support you.
A website you may find useful is called Kidscape, you can find additional information about how to tackle bullying.
Take care,
Sam
