Hi there,
Your letter underlines why it's SO important to tackle bullying properly.
As you've found, laughing things off only works if you can build a wall between you and the bully and pretend the taunts don't hurt. It's a great tactic if you can do it, but it's not easy, and sticking up for yourself can backfire and land YOU in trouble. I'm really sorry the school didn't help when you asked for it - that's awful. Not all teachers are good at dealing with bullying, but if you don't get the help you need right away, go on asking until you find someone who will listen and can help.
I can understand your anger, and in a funny way I believe the karma idea - people who make life miserable for others can only ever attract mean and shallow people, and that doesn't make for a happy life, surely? Hate, anger and spite are poor substitutes for love, trust and friendship.
The best revenge is knowing that this ISN'T forever. You've made good friends outside of school who don't treat you as a victim. The future can be bright, as long as you learn to believe in yourself and work to rebuild your confidence and self-esteem. Good luck.
Take care,
Cathy Cassidy
