Hi there,
Thanks for your letter. I think you have been really brave to get in touch and tell us what’s been happening at school.
Sounds like moving from year 6 to year 7 has been hard for you and you have said your best friend has joined a new group; you have ended up walking home by yourself and that could make you feel really lonely. Perhaps you could try and talk to your friend about this to explain how much it’s hurting you?
You have also told me that some people have been teasing you about doing well in school and the way that you look. This is a type of bullying and nobody has a right to bully you, it is wrong. You have said that you don’t want to move form and I can hear that you don’t want to draw more attention to yourself. Your school have a duty to protect you so maybe you could think about finding a way to tell a teacher that you trust.
What’s going on is making you miserable and you have felt like running away; it can be very hard to keep going to school when you feel like this. You might like to take a look the ChildLine bullying message boards where lots of young people have shared their experiences. You could also think about looking at this website which has some tips on what you can do if you are being bullied: www.bullying.co.uk
If you would like to talk more about this or anything else you can talk to a ChildLine counsellor on the phone, in a 1 2 1 chat or by email. They are ready to listen for you 24 hours a day; 7 days a week.
Take care
Sam
