SMS Terms and Conditions

These terms, conditions and notices (“Terms of Service”) relate to the ChildLine automated text service (the “Service”).  These supplement the ChildLine website terms and conditions and privacy policy
Childline and “we” refer to the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children and “you” refers to the user of the Service.

Charges
ChildLine will not charge you for receiving text (SMS) or picture (MMS) messages under this Service.

However, we cannot accept any legal liability in respect of any charges charged by your mobile network operator for your use of the Service, or for any other loss or damage which may be caused by your use of the Service.

Messages
There are a set number of MMS and SMS messages.  These are detailed on the ChildLine text service page.

A MMS picture message cannot be sent to non- compatible mobile phones. If your mobile phone is not set up to receive MMS picture messages, you may receive a SMS text message from your mobile network operator directing you to retrieve the message from a WAP site.  Data browsing charges may apply so check with your mobile network operator beforehand.

As this is an automated text service, It is not intended that ChildLine will read your message and so it cannot personally respond to any messages and contact you.

If you need to speak to a counsellor please call ChildLine on 0800 1111 or log into the website for a 1-2-1 chat or send us an email.

The information ChildLine gives you in a MMS or SMS reply is based on what you have requested.

In the event that you do not receive your MMS picture message, please use the ChildLine SMS text message option instead.

There may be a delay between when a message is sent and when it is received.

This Service is for use in the the United Kingdom.

This is not a subscription service, so you do not need to unsubscribe.  ChildLine will not send you any messages other than those you have requested.

Privacy
The Service is being provided for ChildLine by a third party service provider
Your mobile phone number will be only stored for this Service.  Mobile telephone numbers will be deleted when they are no longer required for Service provision.

ChildLine will not appear as the message sender in your inbox or be stated on the phone bill. The number 78101 will appear instead.

Service Usage and Discontinuation
There is a fair usage requirement for this Service and so excessive or wrongful use of the Service by any mobile phone may lead to that phone being blocked for this Service.  Such blocking is at the absolute discretion of ChildLine.

We may discontinue, suspend or change this Service at any time but we will let you know, of any changes, on this website.
