Mother's Day

Mother’s Day is a celebration of all mums and a chance to show your Mum that you love and appreciate her.  If you get on with your Mum then it’s a great time to show her you care.

Support on Mother's Day

Mother's Day isn't always easy if you don’t get on with your Mum, or she’s not around for some reason. It can make the day a difficult time of year for some people.

If you are having a difficult time, remember you can get in contact with ChildLine about anything that's on your mind.

ChildLine is not just for the times when someone is in danger, we are also here for the times when you need someone to talk to. Call free on 0800 1111.

You can also chat to other young people who might be feeling the same way as you, on the home and family relationships message board.

  • I don't get on with my Mum what can I do?

It’s normal not to get on with people all the time, especially your parents.  If you are angry with your mum for some reason, you are arguing with her, you feel like she’s always getting at you or you just don’t get on with her, you might not really feel like celebrating Mother’s Day.

You could try talking to your Mum about how you feel and explain to her about why she’s upsetting you. Most mums have your best interest at heart, and just want to keep you safe, but they might not always see things from your point of view. Maybe you could use Mother’s Day as a chance to spend some time together doing something fun, and try and get things back on track.

  • My Mum died, how can I remember her on Mother's Day?

Losing someone close to you is a terrible thing.  It's perfectly natural to have strong reactions when someone you love or are close to dies. It takes time to get over the death of someone you love.

You could use Mother’s Day as a way of remembering your Mum and doing something special for her. Perhaps you could visit her grave to lay some flowers or leave a photograph, go somewhere or do something that you had enjoyed doing together.  Spending some time thinking about how much you loved you mum or talking to other people who loved her too can help.

If you don’t feel that you can talk to anyone about how you feel, you can talk to ChildLine any time.

  • I don't see my Mum and Mother's Day just makes me sad, what can I do?

I don’t see my Mum and Mother’s Day just makes me sad, what can I do?
If you don’t see your Mum any more, then seeing all the cards and gifts for Mother’s Day can be upsetting. Lots of people don’t see their mums and it’s important to know that you are not alone.

If you have someone close to you that you can speak to, you could try talking about how you feel.  If you don’t have anyone you can talk to, you can talk to ChildLine at any time.  We are here for you no matter what your worry is.
